We are now accepting applications for the 2019-2020 school year. The next training begins October 20th.

Read below to see if becoming a Prevention Specialist for our Child Assault Prevention (CAP) Program is right for you!

About the CAP Program:
Each year the CAP Program presents 125 workshops to students in Newton and Brookline elementary schools. The CAP Prevention Specialists work in three-person teams to deliver the CAP curriculum in 90 minute workshops during school hours. This program teaches children simple strategies to reduce vulnerability to assault and violence by presenting basic, age-appropriate, skill-oriented workshops that focus on bullying between children, stranger safety, and sexual assault by known persons.

The workshops consist of facilitated discussion and role-plays for each of the topics. It ends with "Review Time" when the children are offered the opportunity to talk 1:1 with the Prevention Specialists.

Time Commitment:
Attend all 3 sessions of the training (Oct 20th, Nov 3rd and Dec 8th)
Present 2 to 3 ninety minute classroom workshops monthly, October-May, for one school year (this is scheduled based on your availability)
Attend 3-4 in-service trainings during the school year

Training provides information on child abuse and neglect and its impact on society, includes role play and facilitation practice, opportunities to observe classroom workshops led by experienced Prevention Specialists. The training strengthens listening and responding skills to children in support of their safety.

*19 Continuing Education Credits available for MSWs. CEU's offered at no cost to social workers in exchange for commitment to volunteer for the entire school year.
