The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Big Friends Little Friends is a mentoring program that pairs adults, typically 18 and older, with children, ages 7 - 14, to form mentoring relationships and friendships (teens who are at least 17 years with 6 months of driving experience and parent's permission may also participate). Big Friends (mentors) spend 3 - 5 hours a week, or every other week, with their Little Friend (mentee) doing things that they enjoy doing. Some of our mentoring pairs go for walks in the park, some cook creative dishes at home, and others play basketball together. Whatever it is that you choose to do with your Little Friend, you are choosing to make a real difference in his or her life! Do you remember being a child and thinking that no one understood you, that nobody listened to you? This is your opportunity to let a young person know that you do understand, that you are listening!
If you are looking for a volunteer opportunity that will make an impact on the community, an impact on a young person, and an impact on your own life, call us or email us today!
Remember, "To the world you may just be somebody, but to somebody you may just be the world!"
