BEACON for Adult Literacy, an award-winning literacy organization, is recruiting volunteers to become instructors or substitute teachers in the Manassas area. Volunteers are needed to provide small group instruction in English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). No second language or previous teaching experience is required. Free professional-level training is provided. Standardized curriculum and textbooks are used. Volunteers teach two to four hours per week. Classes are a 12-week commitment, starting November 29, and are offered either in the morning 9:30-11:30, (Monday and Wednesday), or evening, 7:00-9:00 (Tuesday and Thursday). Description

BEACON is a low-cost program for adults which offers literacy instruction in the areas of ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages), Pre-GED preparation (high school equivalency), and citizenship preparation. Our students come from all over the world. Trained volunteers work with individuals and small groups at our partner sites throughout the Manassas area.
