ORGANIZATION: American Heart/Stroke Association

Major responsibilities include (but not limited to):

Community-based Health Education and Outreach

  • Support planning, coordination, and logistics at blood pressure screening events and during hypertension management classes in the community.
  • Assist in the delivery of blood pressure screenings and hypertension education classes.
  • Conduct research on community health organizations and topics related to hypertension and healthy lifestyles.
  • Support outreach and ongoing communication with community organizations and volunteers.

Data Management

  • Data entry and data analysis for program monitoring and evaluation (ex: utilization data, pre- and post- survey data).

Marketing and Presentations

  • Draft marketing flyers for events or classes.
  • Prepare presentation slides.

Administrative and Clerical Support

  • Filing, photocopying, and other administrative/clerical tasks as required.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • Educational background or interest in public health, community health, or social services.
  • Ability to use MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
  • Ability to speak Spanish in addition to English highly preferred.

Time Commitment

  • 4- 8 hours a week depending on availability and needs of the project

Stipend

  • AHA can provide a small honorarium to offset travel, parking, meals and other costs incurred as part of volunteering.
