Charleston County Park is participating in the SC DNR & SC Sea Grant 31st Annual Beach & River Sweep.

Volunteers will be picking up litter in the marsh and along the shoreline. Rubber gloves, litter pickers and trash bags will be provided. Trash and recyclables will be separated a routed to the appropriate disposal sites.

Please wear shoes or high rubber boots that will protect your feet as some portions of the sweep may involve walking through marsh or pluff mud.

Volunteers must be 13 years or older (participants under the age of 13 must be supervised by an adult) ability to work outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions; ability to be outdoors for 2-3 hours; willingness to lift and handle trash on the beach.

The Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission features over 11,000 acres of property and includes four regional parks, three beach parks, four seasonally-lifeguarded beach areas, three dog parks, two landmark fishing piers, three waterparks, a historic plantation site, 19 boat landings, a skate park, a climbing wall, a challenge course, an interpretive center, an equestrian center, vacation cottages, a campground, a marina, as well as wedding, meeting, and event facilities. The park system also offers a wide variety of recreational services - festivals, camps, classes, programs, volunteer opportunities, and more.
