The Wildlands is a native habitat garden at Walgrove Elementary School in West LA. It has forest, meadow, arroyo, coast and desert zones designed to mimic the LA watershed with dry streams and bioswales. Walgrove also has a student farm with chickens, fruit trees and seasonal crops. The gardens are used for environmental education, only open to volunteers and the Theodore Payne Garden Tour. There is always something to do in the Wildlands; whether pulling weeds, fixing pathways, creating art, installing plants or moving boulders. Very family friendly environment, but please no dogs. Work at your own pace, with a group, or on your own. Water and bathrooms available. Volunteers should check in at the garden gate.

Please join us Saturday morning in the garden. More dates to be posted soon. Alternate work days can be scheduled, contact us for more info. Arrive at anytime, stay as long as you want.

Weather Note: Unless it's heavy rain, we will be there.

Accessible access.

Mission Statement

Walgrove Elementary School is home to the Walgrove Wildlands, which is over 25,000 square feet of California native habitat. The space is home to more than 100 species, with forest, meadows, dunes and more... It is also vital to the school's thriving environmental education program.

Description

The Walgrove Wildlands is only open to community volunteers once a month (or special occasions), for habitat clean-up and small projects. Be part of a friendly parent and community group caring for this little oasis of nature. We might just enjoy the habitat more than the students. Please join us, and help us keep it growing.
