Can you imagine being unable to read this website, a street sign, instructions on a bottle of medicine, or even a note from your child's teacher? Have you ever wanted to make a real difference in the community? By volunteering with the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia, you can change the lives of adults who want to develop basic reading, writing, and English speaking skills.
With the help of volunteers who serve as teachers, class aides, tutors and testers, the Literacy Council is able to teach hundreds of English language learners in Falls Church and at 14 other sites across Northern Virginia. Prior teaching experience is ideal but not required to get involved -- training, curriculum, and support will be provided.

About Literacy Council of Northern Virginia
2855 Annandale Road, Falls Church, VA 22042, US
The mission of the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia is to teach adults the basic skills of reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English in order to empower them to participate more fully and confidently in their communities.
Established in 1962, the Literacy Council of Northern Virginia has over 50 years experience in the Fairfax community. LCNV serves nearly 1,500 beginning-level English language and literacy adult learners. LCNV's programs provide general English language instruction, targeted literacy skill development, and language for career-specific pathways through classroom, small group and tutorial instruction. Each year roughly 500 volunteers participate with the Council. They are the English teachers, tutors, testers, advocates, and behind-the-scenes administrative, event, and fundraising support that enables LCNV to help each of our adult learners advance toward their English goals.
