Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Texas Folklife

Please consider volunteering for this inaugural convening! The meeting will provide the opportunity to meet other organizations across the state to discuss strategies to strengthen folk and traditional arts in Texas. We are seeking volunteers to lend us a hand during the day convening. Some tasks include table setup, managing attendee check-in, photography, etc. We hope to have 2 volunteers in the morning shift (8:30-12:30) and 2 volunteers in the afternoon shift (12:30-4:30). Let us know if you have any questions.

Mission Statement

Texas Folklife is a private, non-profit cultural organization dedicated to celebrating and preserving the traditional arts and culture of the Lone Star State. We work directly with folk artists and communities to document living traditions and present them to the public through exhibitions, concerts, media projects and education programs.

Description

Texas Folklife (TxF) is dedicated to documenting, preserving and presenting the folk arts and diverse cultural expressions found in the Lone Star State. For the past 27 years, TxF has steadily grown, continuing to foster, perpetuate, and communicate folkways through exhibitions, concerts, performances, documentary audio and video archives, lectures, demonstrations, symposia, community residencies, and apprenticeships. Education is integral to all TxF programs, whether they are presented in schools, nursing homes, museums, theaters, or in factories and cafes. It is our objective to engage the public, and in particular young people, directly with artists, craftsmen, storytellers and musicians to ensure that integral cultural and artistic traditions are celebrated, passed along, and made alive for a new generation.
