PR & Communications Pro for a weekend

ORGANIZATION: Special Olympics North Carolina

Are you a PR or Communications pro or aspiring to be one? Are you comfortable speaking to a wide range of people in a one-to-one environment? Do you like to learn about other people and capture their stories?

This key volunteer-level position assists the SONC communications team in covering our state-level competition. Media reps have public relations or communications experience and are assigned to competition venues in order to assist SONC staff members in covering the event on social media. Additional responsibilities may include: assisting local media with interviews, finding feature story leads and securing quotes from athletes, coaches and volunteers. Media reps would need to commit to at least one full day of competition (but preferably both Saturday and Sunday) and participate in a short training closer to the event. The 2019 Special Olympics North Carolina Fall Tournament will be November 1-3 at various venues throughout the Charlotte area.

We provide training, t-shirts, and lunch. This can be a chance to use your skills or to further develop those skills. Each media rep is assigned to a specific venue. Some media reps may get the work alongside athletes.

Training will be scheduled via webinar in October and a meeting is scheduled for October 30th at 6PM where your attendance is required.
