Seeking Conversational Spanish Group Leaders

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: San Francisco Public Library

  • 11 people are interested

The San Francisco Public Library currently hosts English, Mandarin, Korean, French, and German conversational language groups led by volunteers and community organizations ... and now, due to patron requests, we'd like to start up a Spanish group.

If you have strong fluency in both English and Spanish, are interested in helping others develop their (beginner to intermediate) spoken Spanish skills in a welcoming environment, and can commit to leading the group most weeks for at least six months, we'd like to speak with you! (Teaching experience a plus.)

Ideally we will find two to three volunteers to co-lead the group; we've found having two leaders in the room is helpful in keeping the conversation going, fulfilling different roles (one person may lead a conversation, while the other may note vocabulary or idioms to go back over when there's a lull), and having three total helps insure the class happens (most) every week despite everyone having busy schedules and multiple commitments.

We're hoping to start the group by January 2020 (it's hard to start programs in November & December, when many people are traveling or have other holiday commitments) but could start sooner. We've set aside a room on Wednesday evenings from 6:00-7:30 PM, but if Tuesday or Thursday work better, that's a possibility.

If you're interested, and/or have questions, please contact volunteer@sfpl.org. ¡Gracias!
