United Way of Idaho Falls and Bonneville County is looking for eager volunteers who are interested in participating in our after-school club! S.O.A.R will be held for a six-week period (starting Oct. 15, ending Nov. 21) at Hawthorne Elementary School. S.O.A.R will inspire students to learn essential academic and social skills and build a supportive network of caring role models. Most importantly, together we will help foster imagination, reading, and play in our students!
Wednesdays: Mentoring Days.
Volunteers will be assigned to 3-4 elementary students from 4-6th grades. The first 30-minutes will be snack/free time for students, giving them time to unwind after a long day. The remaining 1 hour will be cut into 20 minute segments for reading and group discussion (20 mins), skills-building or crafts activities (20 mins), and board game or recreational time (20 mins).
Volunteers will be asked to commit to 1.5 hours per week for 6 weeks. It is integral for students to interact with volunteers on a consistent basis in order to better form relationships and create stability in the club environment. If a volunteer is unable to participate on a particular day, please let us know in advance and we will accommodate you accordingly.
