We are looking for a few volunteers to help us with picking up donations from retail stores in our area, and bringing those donations to our pantry. Volunteer will use their own car to pick up donations from a Kroger or Target once a week. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to help, but cannot dedicate their entire day. Also, this opportunity is very socially distanced - donations are typically ready at the back door of the store and you are not required to enter the food pantry when you drop off. Donations vary in size and quantity. For most stores, a truck, SUV or other large vehicle is most appropriate. Volunteers with smaller cars are also welcome to make multiple trips, or to reach out and see if we have smaller pickups available (need varies). Volunteer should also be able to lift up to 30 lbs to load donations at the store. Once you arrive at NSI, just relax because we will unload for you!
Our greatest need for retail pickup volunteers are currently on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We are also looking for 2 to 3 backup retail food rescue volunteers, those who do not wish to commit to a day of the week every week, but are willing to fill in occasionally when our regular volunteers cannot make their usual shift.

Description
NSI Food Pantry aims to temper the ill effects of poverty by providing food and material assistance to persons in need in the Columbus community. We partner with Mid-Ohio Foodbank, local grocers and organizations to stock our pantry, and offer a 5-day supply of food on each visit. NSI Food Pantry improves the quality of life in the Columbus community by compassionately and respectfully serving our neighbors in need.
In 2021, NSI’s volunteers served 979,773 meals to 47,283 people in 68 zip codes.
In addition to food programs, we also distribute backpacks stuffed with school supplies in August, and Christmas toys for children up to 12 years old in December. Our addition food programs include: an Easter dinner package, a Thanksgiving dinner package, AARP Free Tax Prep, rent and utility assistance and a monthly CSFP food box for senior citizens (60+).
