The YWCA Monterey County provides free child care to our clients while they are receiving services for domestic violence or human trafficking. The Child Care Volunteer looks after and engages children while their parents are in an appointment or other programming administered by the YWCA. The volunteer will be responsible for no more than five children at one time.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety and neatness of the child care area before, during, and throughout a given
  • volunteer shift
  • Greet clients and children at arrival and departure
  • Follow proper arrival and departure protocol for all children in the child care area
  • Have fun with the kids!

Qualifications

  • Interest in or experience working with youth of various ages
  • Ability to take initiative and improvise activities when needed
  • Ability to lift 30-40 lbs.
  • Ability to pass a background check/Live Scan
  • Completion of YWCAMC New Volunteer Orientation
  • Completion of Domestic Violence Training (through YWCAMC or another agency)
  • Completion of Monterey County mandated reporter training

Position-Specific Training

In addition to the New Volunteer Orientation, the Child Care Volunteer will be guided on related responsibilities by the Child Care Coordinator. Additional support will be made available as needed.

Time Commitment & Location

We are looking for someone who can help for at least one two-hour shift per week. We currently need one volunteer for Monday evening shifts from 5:30-7pm. Other shifts are available Monday-Friday at the following times: 10am-12pm, 1pm-3pm, 3pm-5pm. Volunteers will not commit to more than two shifts per day. Ongoing commitment required. The location of the position is flexible--either out of our Salinas office or one of our safe houses in Monterey County.
