Open Table Ministry operates a bi-weekly Free Store providing clothing and household items to our homeless and at-risk clients. The Free Store is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:30 am to 11:30 am.
Each 2.5-hour shift runs from 9:15 am - 11:45 am on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. We are looking for volunteers who can come help out at least one or more shifts per month, up to twice per week.
Volunteers check clients in and help them pick out the clothing and other practical items they most need. Training is provided.
We are also looking for volunteers who can come in on an as-needed basis to help sort and store donations.

Mission Statement
Open Table Ministry seeks out and guides people experiencing homelessness and poverty toward long-term health and wholeness by building ongoing trusting relationships, meeting practical and personal needs, making connections to community resources, and bridging critical gaps in the social services system.
Description
Since 2010 Open Table Ministry has been helping our friends experiencing homelessness and poverty in Durham by providing clothing, emergency shelter, food, prescription medicines, and guidance through the many layers of bureaucracy required in gaining long-term housing. For many of our clients we bridge the gap between homelessness on the streets and a productive life. We enter into friendship, sharing weekly meals and creating a supportive community.
Services we provide regularly include temporary emergency shelter; clothing, furnishings, and other practical items; work boots, uniforms, and other equipment needed to gain and maintain employment; a weekly healthy meal to develop relationships and learn specific needs; and advocacy and advocacy and assistance with the housing process. Last year we helped more than 40 individuals in Durham gain permanent housing--that's more than 10% of Durham's total homeless population!
