Position Title: Love and Laundry Host
Community Need Met: The mission of Friendship House is to reflect the heart of God by feeding, sheltering, clothing, and healing... to empower those in need. A Love and Laundry Host helps locals in having clean hygienic laundry for interviews, household needs, and daily life. Volunteers are offered an opportunity to see the degree of need that is present in our neighborhood. While doing this they will help to support an environment of healthy and hygienic living for every individual. While doing this, volunteers will have time to talk with clients if they choose which can be an opportunity to connect with people and better understand their life experiences.
Qualifications: We ask that all volunteers for this position have patient and friendly customer service skills. Volunteers are expected to work with others, embrace diversity, and pay attention to their surroundings.
Responsibilities: Volunteers are expected to support guests in using the machines laundry including supervision of soap use and overloaded machines. Volunteers must also ensure guests follow written rules and sign-up sheets. Although not required, volunteers are encouraged to socialize with guests who are waiting for their laundry to finish. Volunteers may have other duties upon request
Location and Time Commitment: Shifts are every day from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The laundry shack is located behind the Friendship House Men’s House at 1008 S 3 rd Street, Mount Vernon. We ask that that volunteers commit to at least one shift per week for a minimum of three months. Ending times for shifts are only estimates. Volunteers are expected to remain until all duties are complete.
