The American Red Cross responds to a disaster every 8 minutes. This is an average of more than 62,000 disasters every year. Disaster Action Teams (DAT) are ready to respond 24 hours/day and 365 days/year by providing care, comfort and compassion.
Our DAT team responds to local home fires and provide support and assistance to someone in one of their darkest moments. There are regular team meetings and ongoing training opportunities for personal growth, leadership positions and national deployments. The American Red Cross aspires to be an organization fully committed to diversity and inclusion by creating and maintaining a diverse workforce which helps to ensure culturally competent service delivery.
Here is a video that briefly outlines the role. https://youtu.be/-yamNDUbsn0. During COVID the response looks a little different, but our core mission is to provide comfort, care, and compassion to those affected by disasters.
