You are a seasoned professional with a minimum of 25+ years of experience, who is retired or in transition. You want to continue to work and want to do something with meaning. You are ready for a second act for the greater good.

Encore Fellowships are structured programs that place highly-skilled, experienced professionals into social-purpose organizations, where they help nonprofits build capacity, and ultimately, have a greater impact on their communities. Fellows commit to 1,000 hours of work over 6 to 12 months. They are paid a stipend of $20,000 and are integrated into the nonprofit’s leadership team.

About New Horizons

New Horizons empowers individuals with disabilities to reach their full potential. Together they’re building an inclusive world that celebrates strengths, respects abilities, and embraces diversity. They believe that their clients lives are changed and enhanced when they elevate expectations, provide the tools for growth and change, and create an environment when trust and camaraderie are the norm.

New Horizons currently serves over 1,500 clients per year. Their programs include day treatment services, travel training, residential programs, and employment and vocational training services

New Horizons is in a period of change and growth. After 65 years of outstanding service to the disability community on their 7-acre campus site in the San Fernando Valley, they find that their services need to transition to the community and that they must find ways to be more integrated. To do this, they are in the midst of a philosophical, programmatic and geographic metamorphosis.

Encore Fellow Project Manager: Primary Role and Responsibilities

With new leadership and renewed vigor, they are now in a place of needing help to manage the many change-oriented projects they have before them. With funding tightening and mandates increasing, they need to maximize existing funding and find new streams. One example of this is the implementation of their scheduling software. They are not looking for an expert in this type of software, but instead need someone who is comfortable and experienced in managing people through change. This will be a collaborative effort, but one that will also allow a Fellow to dig deep into the organizational structure, making both suggestions for change and to implement that change.

This is just one example of project management that can and will help them meet the goals outlined in their Strategic Plan. They have a strong leadership team, and with additional resources, will meet both their short and long term goals for the agency and the clients that they serve.
