Cambodian Children's Fund

OUR ORGANISATION

Founded in 2004, Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF) provides life-changing education, nourishment and healing to vulnerable children from some of Cambodia’s most destitute communities. This well respected NGO cares for more than 2,300 students and 16,000 people annually, providing to entire families and communities in crisis. For the children of the Steung Meanchey area, education is their lifeline out of poverty and CCF offers a solid education aimed at providing hope, opportunity and security.

In 2012, CCF was recognized as having "one of the world’s best initiatives in innovative

education", becoming the first organization in South-East Asia to win a WISE Award.

The Cambodian Children's Fund is known for delivering a world class, model of education that provides transformational opportunities for impoverished young people in a learning community

committed to quality and excellence. In order to meet its core mission, CCF has evolved and developed in a unique way that distinguishes it from other NGOs which focus on single or limited program delivery. CCFs programs have expanded to ensure that the families of the children who attend CCF are also supported, with more than 64 programs - everything from health care to debt alleviation programs - all of which exist to support the main goal of providing a consistent, high quality education to the children of Steung Meanchey.

The work of CCF in Cambodia is supported by relationship development and fundraising businesses in USA, Australia, UK and HK, all of which are managed by Boards. 2013 has been a year of transition for CCF. It has grown rapidly since its inception and the organization is repositioning for its next stage of growth.

BEING A VOLUNTEER AT CCF

Volunteers at CCF not only participate within our organization as highly valued and respected members of our team, but also as a huge part of our development and growth framework. Working to build capacity, Volunteer placements focus on sharing valuable knowledge and skills with CCF staff and students- either within a set position, project or via on-the-job training or workshops. Placements are extremely rewarding and allow volunteers a hands-on opportunity to help grow and develop the very core of our organization. By working with CCF, volunteers assist in empowering our local staff and students to truly become, not only educated and accomplished professionals, but the future leaders of this country.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to break cycles of poverty and abuse and to create positive change in Cambodia through intervention and education for the most impoverished and underserved children and their families. Originally developed as a single shelter offering safe haven to 45 children in critical need, today CCF offers refuge, education and healthcare to over 2,000 children and hundreds of families with comprehensive care and dedicated staff.

Description

We believe that with the right education and support, one child has the potential to lift an entire family out of poverty and that a generation of educated children has the power to change a whole society. Through intensive, long-term investments in children, CCF is helping students build the skills, confidence and integrity they need to become the progressive spokespeople and leaders of change in their communities.

Since 2004, we’ve been working with some of the most impoverished communities in Cambodia, centered around the former garbage dump at Steung Meanchey. Back then, our world revolved around the health and well-being of 45 children living on the garbage dump. Today there are more than 2,200 students working towards a better future for themselves and their families through CCF’s award winning education program.

The garbage dump was closed in 2009, however the need for CCF’s services continues as Steung Meanchey remains an entry-point into Phnom Penh for destitute families with no option but to try and make a living through scavenging or begging on the city streets.

Through a range of programs that focus on 6 core areas - Education, Leadership, Community Outreach, Healthcare, Childcare and Vocational Training - we take a holistic, on-the-ground approach to developing integrated solutions to the complex issues of poverty.
