Position Title: Member of the Board of Directors
Length of Term: Two years

The board of directors is legally and ethically responsible for all of RISE's activities as it:
1. Determines how RISE's mission will be implemented and carried out ( short and long term)
2. Creates an annual budget and provides fiscal oversight
3. Recruits, orients, and develops board members
4. Hires and evaluates the performance of the executive director
5, Evaluates its performance and RISE's overall performance.
6. Establishes policies and ensures RISE's effective management

Responsibilities:
1. Understands and promote the RISE’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
2. Is familiar with the organization’s programs, policies, and operations
3. Attends board meetings and appropriate committee meetings
4. Actively serves on at least one committee and offer to take on special assignments
5. Reviews agenda and supporting documents prior to meetings
6. Makes an annual contribution to the organization commensurate with ability
7. Participates in fund raising activities and special events
8. Serves as RISES's advocates and ambassadors and fully engage in identifying and securing the financial resources and partnerships necessary for the organization to advance its mission.
9. Leverages connections, networks, and resources to develop collective action to fully achieve the organization’s mission
10. Keeps current on related issues and developments in program areas
11. Strictly adheres to conflict of interest policies

Board Members' role Expectation:

• Understands and follows RISE’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions
• Signs an annual conflict-of-interest disclosure and update it during the year if necessary, as well as disclose potential conflicts before meetings and actual conflicts during meetings
• Maintains confidentiality about all RISE related internal matters.
• Has ability to read and understand RISE’s financial statements
