ORGANIZATION: Second Harvest of Silicon Valley

Help us preserve our heritage! Second Harvest of Silicon Valley seeks someone who is experienced in photographing small and large objects, mainly under artificial light. Your photos will be used to capture our rich heritage and build our digital media archive. Some objects may be under glass or plastic so a knowledge of how to handle reflection challenges and work with lighting is desired. Post-production experience is also desired. Knowledgeable in selecting the best photos, editing and cleaning up images. You may be asked to help devise a system for supplying tags and captions.

A successful applicant will have an interest and experience in helping us build a digital media archive from the ground up. You will have the support of a small heritage team to preserve our past as we evolve into an exciting and dynamic new era.

  • Want use this experience to further a career in museums, libraries, educational institutions and the non-profit sector

Skills:

Photography

Staging

Lighting

Photo editing

Knowledge of PhotoShop or other photo editing software

DSL camera; own lighting and/or backdrop materials desired but not required

Opportunity to learn Libris, a digital asset management software tool

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum 3-6 month commitment

At least 5-15 hours per week.

Interest in and knowledge of visual archival methods

Ability to travel between our two San Jose sites and our San Carlos sites, if necessary.

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is a private non-profit organization that collects and distributes more than 12 million pounds of food each month. We currently serve an average of over 500,000 individuals each month; 60% are low income families and 20% are seniors. By building collaborative networks, we efficiently distribute food by leveraging donations of money, food and human resources. But we cannot do it alone.
