Becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate, or CASA, is a great way to help an abused or neglected child in foster care. CASAs are trained volunteers who advocate for the best interest of Passaic County children in the child welfare system. They provide a voice for their child in family court by gathering info from family, doctors, teachers, caseworkers, and caretakers and then making informed recommendations for the child’s future. CASAs are so important because often they are the only consistent person in the life of a child in foster care.

By dedicating only 7-15 hours a month you can make all the difference in a foster child’s life. There are no special background or education requirements to become a CASA and all training and resources are provided. Take the first step and join us at an information session on December 16 th to find out more!

Mission Statement

Court Appointed Special Advocates of Passaic and Union Counties is an independent, non-profit organization that champions the best interests of children involved in the child welfare system. CASA volunteers serve as a child's advocate in court and are committed to ensuring that needed services and assistance are made available to children in need.

Description

Every year more than half a million abused and neglected children are in need of safe, permanent, nurturing homes.

That's where CASA steps in. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) was created in 1977 to make sure the abuse and neglect these children originally suffered at home doesn't continue as abuse and neglect at the hands of the system. As trained advocates, CASA volunteers are appointed by judges to be a voice for these children in court. The result is that a child has an individual advocate to speak for them in court.

It is the CASA vision to provide a volunteer for each and every abused and neglected child who needs one.
