Several years ago we built garden beds at Satellite Central Senior Apartments in Oakland. The garden beds were a tremendous success! Low Income Seniors grew pounds of tomatoes, peppers, squash, greens and more! Now the garden beds are worn out. It is time to replace the beds with new ones, so that residents can continue to have access to fresh produce, and enjoy gardening.
Help re-build the raised garden beds for low income seniors at Satellite Central in downtown Oakland (just blocks from BART). The Garden Build is from 10:30-4:30 on October 3rd, and will include dismantling old beds, constructing new beds, filling them with dirt, and possibly planting the first seedlings. This is a great team building activity, and/or a chance to get to know some new people. Experienced staff from SAHA and City Slicker Farms will be on hand to direct and assist with the project. Lunch will be provided.

Description
The purpose of the SAHA's Volunteer Program is to improve the quality of living and promote health and well-being for Satellite Housing's residents. Volunteers will help foster community by facilitating activities for the residents, such as exercise groups, art classes, discussion groups, providing health and wellness information, leading or participating in games, assisting with special events, etc. The residents really appreciate the effort that is put forth by the volunteers, and look forward to the weekly interactions.
