Traditions Health, formerly known as Hospice Community Care cares for terminally ill patients and those who love them. We are looking for Friendly Visitor volunteers to befriend our patients in Glen Allen, Midlothian, Richmond, Hanover, Williamsburg, Newport News, Hampton and Virginia Beach.

You don't need to have hospice volunteer experience because we will train you. You will visit your patient in whatever setting your patient considers to be home (a house or apartment, a nursing home or assisted living facility) When you visit with your patient, you can play board games like Sorry! or checkers, watch classic movies on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) or weather permitting, you can take your patient outside for fresh air. In these times of Covid, there may be times when all your patient may need you to do to provide supportive presence. You can visit with your patient as many times a month as your patient would like and you are able to visit. Most Friendly Visitors see their patients a minimum of five times a month.

To potentially become a Traditions Health volunteer, answer the questions from Volunteer Match below. You must be at least 18 years of age and be a licensed driver with current auto insurance. Unfortunately, if you have a DUI on your driving record at anytime, you will be unable to volunteer. You will need to have a TB test (for which Traditions Health pays) and a background check (which is also paid for by Traditions Health).

Your training will take place in Glen Allen or Newport News and you will be assigned to a patient in the area that's closet to where you live or, if you prefer, work or go to school. As a volunteer, you will need to adhere to all CDC guidelines including wearing a mask, hand washing or sanitizing and social distancing. We will train you to be safe and keep your patient safe during the ongoing Covid pandemic.
