The Arctic Refuge Defense Campaign is a coalition of organizations working to stop oil & gas drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge is home to polar bears, wolves, caribou, and over 200 species of migratory birds. The local indigenous people, the Gwich'in, depend on the caribou herd in order to survive. Drilling for what little oil remains here is not worth sacrificing this precious ecosystem, or the way the Gwich’in have lived for thousands of years. Volunteer opportunities include engaging with elected officials, holding media events to increase visibility, and building a grassroots movement in New Hampshire to protect public lands.
We are holding events and building a team of volunteers in the Portsmouth, NH area.
