Traditions Health of Newport News, d.b.a. Hospice Community Care, is looking for volunteers. We are seeking dedicated Friendly Visitor volunteers to spend time with our patients in Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk or Virginia Beach.

Hospice Community Care provides dignified end-of-life care and quality services for our patients and their loved ones. As a Friendly Visitor volunteer, you would spend quality time with your patient by doing things like taking them outside (weather permitting), playing a card game or checkers, watching a classic movie together or simply providing quiet support for your patient with your presence.

As a Friendly Visitor volunteer, you will visit your patient in whatever setting they call home; a nursing home, an assisted living facility, an apartment or a house. Friendly Visitor volunteers "bring the sunshine" to their patient by building a bond between themselves and their patient. We will work with your schedule as much as possible but we do ask for five hours a month.

To become a Friendly Visitor volunteer, you must be 18 years of age or older, be a licensed driver with current auto insurance and a clean driving records with no DUI's. You must take a TB which Hospice Community Care provides at no cost to you. Training is mandatory and no personal care for the patient (feeding, bathing, dressing) is involved.

You will receive training regarding Covid-19 including mask wearing, social distancing and hand washing. As a volunteer with Hospice Community Care, you will be required to follow Covid-19 protocols as they pertain to your patient.

Does this sound like an opportunity for you? Contact us through Volunteer Match or contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Cynthia Vereen-Anderson at 804-290-0951or email her today at cynthia.anderson@traditionshealth.com. We are looking forward to hearing from you!
