As a Cross-Cultural Solutions international volunteer, you're making a meaningful contribution, working side-by-side with local people and sharing in the goals of a community that warmly welcomes you. You're experiencing another culture like never before and really getting to know its people. It's an exciting and personally inspiring experience, and you'll develop memories that will be with you forever.
Located in the stunning Himalayas, in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, Dharamsala gained world attention in 1959, when the Dalai Lama fled to the area and settled there. Dharamsala is set in a beautiful forest with the snow-capped Himalayan mountain range as its backdrop and it is a popular starting point for hikers as well as visitors of the Dalai Lama. The town is a unique meeting place of two ancient traditions the local Indian community on one side, and the refugee Tibetan community on the other. The rural setting ensures that there are plenty of opportunities for volunteers to immerse themselves in the local community, as well as enjoy the beauty of the Himalayas. In addition to India, Cross-Cultural Solutions offers volunteer programs in Brazil, Costa Rica, Ghana, Guatemala, Morocco, Peru, South Africa, Tanzania, and Thailand. Start dates are year-round and programs run from 1-12 weeks long. In India, CCS offers additional volunteer opportunities in the capital city of New Delhi.
