StandUp for Kids - Miami is a chapter of a national nonprofit organization that has a nearly 30-year history across the country of ending the cycle of youth homelessness. The Miami program is hoping to get off the ground again by developing an after-school program in Lemon City Park. We are in need of highly motivated and self-starting volunteers to make that happen! Our biggest need right now is a volunteer or two to coordinate with Homeless Student Liaison Officers at high schools in the Little Haiti area (with school's nearest Lemon City Park a first priority). With help from these school liaisons, this volunteer or volunteers will identify youth who are homeless or at-risk of being homeless, make contact with youth with the idea of inviting them to Lemon City Park after school program, and work them and other volunteers to identify the youths' needs. Once we have established a base of youth, we will need volunteers to serve weekly as program coordinators and facilitators.
If you have 4-6 hours per week available for a minimum of six months, experience working with teens in some prior capacity, and a desire to see this community better respond to the needs of young people experiencing homelessness, we want to hear from you! Volunteers will also need to complete a background check, character references, and an interview. Local and national volunteers and staff are able to assist and guide new volunteers toward success.
