We are in need of

  • Registered nurses and social workers that might be interested in mentoring and case management support on their days off from work
  • Office support
  • Sorting donations and helping in our food pantries
  • General data entry
  • Childcare during programs
  • Assistance with pick up and delivery of donated furniture, baby and household items
  • Homework study tutor
  • Reading volunteer for family reading group
  • Transportation coordination for families to parenting classes

2 Shifts

  • morning / 09:00 AM to 11:45 AM
    Transporting to Parenting Classes, Providing Child Care Services during classes, mentoring
  • afternoon / 12:00 PM to 03:00 PM
    Providing child care as teens attend parenting classes and tutoring, transportation assistance

The mission of Young Parents United is to invest in the future of families and promote positive change among adolescent parents through inspiration, empowerment, education, support, and practical tools in order to break destructive cycles, increase parenting skills, education, and job skills, thus enhancing self-sufficiency and greater success for teen parents and their children for generations to come.

Description

Young Parents United Inc. is a local nonprofit organization working with teenage mothers and fathers. This organization take a comprehensive approach to addressing the complex developmental & socioeconomic challenges and obstacles that teen parents face - while providing oversight - in order to create a "bridge" to self-sufficiency & for teen parents, as well as, safety & stability for their children. YPU primary focus areas are Case Management & Educational Programming. We focus on relationship building, teaching, developing positive behaviors & attitudes. Assistance includes navigating social services, securing stable housing, completing high school, college planning, arranging subsidized childcare, managing relationships with health care providers, accessing community partners (food pantries, educational programs), enhancing each parent’s self-perception with positive encouragement and feedback, improving quality of relationships with others, improving ability to respond to crisis situations, and improving self-understanding & more. We also help with stable housing, donated furniture, clothing, baby & household items, as well as, holiday food & toy programs, & other seasonal support.
