Volunteer Services (VS), a program with Catholic Community Services, needs volunteers to help deliver firewood during the cold seasons! VS works to provide volunteer help with essential living chores and transportation requests from low-income seniors and adults with disabilities throughout Mason, Lewis, and Thurston counties that are not in assisted living. Part of this is we oversee two small wood banks, one in Olympia and one in Shelton, where we deliver emergency truckloads of firewood to folks in need if they are running low or out of their own supply. As our program gets many requests throughout October - February, and as every year the number of people requesting firewood grows, VS is in great need of committed volunteers who have their own hauling vehicles to bring firewood to these clients in need. During non-cold months volunteers with capable vehicles are also needed to help haul freshly harvested wood from harvest sites and delivered to our wood banks for replenishment. VS offers mileage reimbursement for all driving involved in meeting a volunteer request, and volunteers are covered by Catholic Community Services extended liability insurance. Give the gift of heat to a senior in your community this holiday season and volunteer today!

Mission Statement
We believe every child should grow up in a safe, loving and nurturing environment We believe the elderly should be able to live with security and dignity. We believe healthy family life should be affirmed and supported in our communities We believe in compassion, love and respect for all people, especially the poor and most vulnerable. We believe in joining with others to change systems that oppress, discriminate or otherwise cause human suffering. We believe employees and volunteers should work in an environment that fosters respect, teamwork and excellence. We believe in all of these things for all people, whatever their color, whatever language they speak or however they worship.
Description
Our program exists as a safety net for low-income elders and people with disabilities (also low-income)by providing them with services that allow them to remain living as independently as possible in their own homes (not assisted living). For example, a 89 year old woman who only collects $600/mo. in Social Security needs help with her lawn. She can't afford to pay someone, and if her lawn goes a couple of months without being mowed, now the lawn is a fire hazard.
