Located in Santa Ana, California, Gerry House (GH) is Orange County’s leading recovery and rehabilitation center designed to provide quality residential, drug/alcohol addiction and dependence treatment services to those who are committed to achieve a long lasting successful outcome. GH is also a first state-licensed site in California to serve clients with specific medical needs including Hepatitis C, HIV and AIDS.

Since 1990, GH has helped over 900 long term clients towards their recovery from substance abuse and dependence and achieved highly effective outcomes. Founded based on a belief that lasting change in treatment of addiction can only be achieved through a long term personalized approach (minimum of six-month commitment), GH focuses on serving only 24 clients annually based on its highly effective recovery programs. From residential services to continuum of care services, GH is committed to take each client’s potential to maintain their sobriety to another level.

GH is expanding with brand new initiatives to increase our visibility and services. In order to meet new and changing demands, we need additional staff to support our office administrative team to help us build a stronger foundation. The hours are flexible and volunteers are welcome to work in our office while getting to know our fun and dedicated team of professionals.

Administrative Assistant/Program Support volunteer opportunities are designed to familiarize individuals with the structure and workflow of how non-profit community mental health organizations operate. These are excellent opportunities for those who are interested in gaining an inside look of a counseling center.

We offer our volunteers with the opportunity to learn new skills (e.g., office administrative duties, documentation, etc.), explore your passion and, most importantly, give something back to your local community.

Responsibilities

Volunteers’ duties include, but are not limited to, one or more of the following responsibilities that support GH’s administrative needs

• Assist in the preparation of regularly scheduled reports
• Assist in developing and maintaining a filing system
• Assist in ordering office supplies
• Assist in carrying out administrative duties such as filing, typing, copying, binding, scanning, etc.
• Handle sensitive information in a confidential manner
• Photocopy and print out documents on behalf of office staff

Qualifications

• Enjoy meeting people
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
• General office practices and procedures
• Must be familiar with Microsoft Excel and Word
• Works well independently and as a part of a team
• Ability to handle office equipment (fax/copy machines, etc.

Benefits and recognition

This position provides valuable experience with operational responsibilities in a drug addiction and rehabilitation organization and mental health setting. Volunteers are highly valued members of the GH team as we believe our volunteers can make a significant difference to achieving GH's mission. GH will provide reference letters for all volunteers who successfully complete a placement.
