Our mission is to nurture community and improve people’s lives through the practice of music. Sistema Tulsa envisions how a comprehensive and inclusive music education program can positively impact the social, cognitive, and aesthetic realms of youth development. We strive to provide a model for accessible, ensemble-based music programs that enrich the lives of local youth across varied underserved communities.
Description
Since 2015, Sistema Tulsa offers rigorous and high-quality music learning programs that are free of cost and accessible to all. Sistema Tulsa has grown from a start-up organization to one that is maturing into a powerful educational framework to effect positive change. Sistema Tulsa is a social change through music program of the Boston Avenue United Methodist Church in concert with community partners. Our mission is "to nurture community and improve young people’s lives through the practice of music." The program is inspired by the global "El Sistema" music education movement. In 2018, Sistema Tulsa received a citation of commendation from the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
