Dear Prospective Fluff Festival Volunteer, Union Square Main Streets, the nonprofit working to enhance vibrancy in Union Square, is excitedly preparing for the 14th annual Fluff Festival, which will take place on Saturday, September 21, 2019 (rain date 9/22). We are expecting over 20,000 people for our biggest festival yet! Between lively bands, tasty Fluff treats, a Cooking Contest, Fluff games, and much more, the fun never ends. There is no way we'd be able to present such a huge, unique festival without the help of amazing volunteers. Thank you for considering this opportunity! Our volunteer signup form allows you to specify when you are available, what you are most interested in helping with, and any other special requests. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences whenever possible.
This year’s theme - Fluff Travels - celebrates one of the most culturally rich cities in the nation, paying homage to the many roads traveled to Union Square from all over the world. With 50+ languages spoken in its schools, Somerville is home to a mix of neighbors from El Salvador, Haiti, Portugal, Brazil, and beyond.

Union Square Main Streets brings together business and property owners, residents, community leaders and government who share a common goal of revitalizing and improving our neighborhood. With a shared vision, Union Square Main Streets leverages the resources at hand - private and public, human and financial - to improve the neighborhood in the near and far term.
* We are a broad-based group of representatives of Union Square, including business and commercial property owners, residents, non-profit and civic leaders, and Somerville city government.
* We help Union Square grow as a thriving, safe, friendly business district providing diverse cultural offerings and a variety of independent businesses to both serve and employ residents.
* We strive to make Union Square cleaner and more pedestrian-friendly.
* We seek to improve the storefronts of Union Square with better signage and a cleaner appearance.
* We promote Union Square, so that people will want to live in Somerville and shoppers will come from other areas to enjoy its vibrant arts, retail and entertainment offerings.
* We foster local leadership and cooperation of residents, businesses and landlords to build a healthy, economically vital Union Square.
* We recognize that there are no magical, overnight solutions for reviving Union Square, just a gradual process of effective transformation. Revitalization comes both through cooperative planning for the future and creating visible change now

REQUIREMENTS
- Volunteer shifts are typically 2 or 3 hours on the day of the festival. Pre-event support , which can vary in terms of commitment, is welcome too.
- A general appreciation for unexpected fun and community celebration.
