Childcare Volunteers - 2017

Dear YNPN colleagues, Found In Translation's Language Access Fellowship (LAF) program, a free medical interpreter training program for low-income multilingual women, is in dire need of volunteers to work on-site with our participants' children while they are in class. The program takes place from 6pm-9pm at BMC on Tuesdays-Thursdays and at Dimock Center on Saturdays from 10am-1pm. It begins Tuesday, August 27th, and runs through December 7th. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, kid-friendly, warm, and reliable. Our classes take place at BMC on weeknights and Saturday mornings, and each volunteer shift is three hours long. Childcare takes place during the class. Children range in age from 1-12 years old. Toys are provided by our staff. Our LAF program not only provides free training and job placement to low-income, multilingual women, but also includes common-sense supports, such as free on-site childcare, transportation assistance, and mentoring, as well as workshops for professional development and financial literacy. If you're interested in working with us in this capacity, please send an email with your attached resume. If you would like more information about our organization, please contact the Supportive Services Coordinator, Ayolah Ibezim, at ayolah@found-in- translation.org or 857-500-7804. Our website can be visited HERE. Sincerely, The Found In Translation Team

Mission Statement

To help homeless and low-income multilingual women to achieve economic security through the use of their language skills. To reduce ethnic, racial, and linguistic disparities in health care by unleashing bilingual talent into the workforce.

Description

Found in Translation is an award-winning nonprofit known for its innovation and effectiveness in turning social problems into opportunities. Our Medical Interpreter Certificate training and job placement program supports our two-fold mission.

Low-income communities are rich in bilingual talent. We identify promising candidates with limited economic resources and empower them to succeed in our program and in the interpreting profession. Our program is free of charge and includes common-sense supports such as on-site childcare, transportation assistance, mentoring, career coaching, financial education, job search assistance, and job placement.

Linguistic minority women may be at a double disadvantage, but Found in Translation helps them to capitalize on their existing strengths and use language as a unique competitive advantage to attain financial security and success.
