Mission Statement

Habitat for Humanity Philadelphia transforms lives and our City by building quality homes in partnership with families in need and by uniting all Philadelphians around the cause of affordable housing.

Description

In the City of Philadelphia, the need for decent, affordable housing is tremendous: one in four households in the city cannot afford to pay for the roof over their head, or is living in unsafe, substandard or overcrowded housing. These living conditions affect children’s health and education and erode entire communities.

Habitat offers a time-tested, successful solution to the affordable housing crisis: we utilize the current housing stock, we partner with low-income families committed to 350 hours of sweat-equity work, we offer a zero-interest, no profit mortgage, and we capture the enthusiasm of dedicated volunteers.

Habitat Philadelphia depends on volunteers to help build decent, affordable housing in partnership with the families in our program. Working together with Habitat staff and Partner Families, volunteers complete nearly every aspect of home construction, from framing to the finishing touches.
