Volunteers will join Ellanor C. Lawrence Park staff to work on much needed restoration of surrounding natural areas and improvement of our trail system. This project can use anywhere from 5-30 volunteers. The work accomplished by volunteers will beautify the park.
Volunteers will help spread gravel along the trails. Volunteers will also remove non-native invasive plants to protect and give native species a chance to thrive.
Non-native invasive plants overrun native vegetation, reducing habitat and biodiversity. Volunteers will pull or cut invasive plants in the natural areas using tools, such as Weed Wrenches, saws and loppers. Invasive plants to be removed include bush honeysuckle, autumn olive, multi-flora rose and others.
Please register on the County webpage for this event: https://volunteer.fairfaxcounty.gov/custom/1380/#/opp_details/184416
Volunteers should wear long sleeves, pants and sturdy shoes. Staff will provide tools, gloves and other equipment needed for the projects. Snacks will be provided.
Kids younger than 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
