ORGANIZATION: FAR Therapeutic Arts and Recreation

  • 8 people are interested

Volunteers are needed at Alcott for Art Therapy groups. This will be split into two shifts. The first shift from 10:15 - 12:30 and the second from 12:30 - 2:30. This is a huge need as we NEED to have two adults in the classroom. However, Alcott is not able to pay another person to be in the room with the art therapist.

Volunteers are needed to help lead the art therapy groups to art therapy and back to their classrooms. While in the art therapy sessions the adult will be there to be an extra set of hands as designated by the therapist. If the volunteer is not needed to help the students they may read, work, be on their cell phone quietly in the back of the room.

Mission Statement

Enriching the lives of individuals with special needs, regardless of age, through the power of creative arts and recreational therapies.

Description

FAR Therapeutic Arts and Recreation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization providing a space for folks with special needs to enrich their lives. Founded in 1951, we work with clients of all ages, introducing them to new activities and experiences, helping them gain a deeper understanding of themselves and showing them new ways to communicate how they feel.

Through the dedication of our highly-trained staff and the support of partners and collaborating organizations throughout Metro Detroit, we offer music, art, dance/movement and recreational therapy for children and adults with a variety of special needs diagnoses. We go into schools in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties to provide music, art, dance/movement and recreational therapy for students receiving special education services. We work to expose our clients to new avenues of expression which serve to improve how they relate and interact with their environments and families.
