Neighborhood Youth Association is a nonprofit organization that provides academic tutoring, leadership development and life skills to low-income and at-risk youth. We are based in Venice, and serve students after school from south and west LA.

As part of our high school leadership program, NYA provides elective classes. We would like to offer a chess class. Ideally, this class would teach students how to play chess, as well as help them with their critical thinking and organizational skills. This class would be 1-2 hours, once a week for the school year (after school). We are flexible on the time and can work with the volunteers' schedules. The class would be small (5-8 students).

We do not require prior teaching experience, but are looking for people who are passionate about contributing to the community and social justice, and want to share their love of chess and teach basic skills to dedicated, at-risk teens.
