ORGANIZATION: Guadalupe River Park Conservancy

Guadalupe River Park Conservancy is looking for enthusiastic, passionate individuals that are interested in environmental education to serve as program aides for our CHIRP (Community Homeschool Investigators of the River Park) Program. This position is perfect for those who are curious about the environment, education, and working with students from many different backgrounds. The Program Aide will help us deliver quality education to students aged 5-12 and is perfect for high school or college students or retirees, though we encourage all to apply!

This is a long-term (6 months+) commitment. Duties will include helping students, set up and break down of materials, leading activities under the guidance of the Head Educator, serving as a positive role model for the members of our CHIRP Homeschool classes, and other activities that contribute to the successful learning of our students.

Special items to consider are that interns may need to lift 20 lbs occasionally, be able to stand up/reach down for extended periods of time, be able to walk across the street and back, and be able to follow directions carefully.

Candidates must be able to commit to a regular shift during the week. The first CHIRP class will be on Monday, September 9, 2019. The last will be Thursday, May 21, 2020, holidays excluded. This position could continue into the 2020-2021 school year at the discretion of the Intern Coordinator and the Intern.

The time of the shift is every Monday and/or Thursday, holiday weeks excluded, from 1:00 PM - 3:30 PM. Punctuality and attendance are vital to the success of this role.

The volunteer should be detail-oriented, passionate about the environment, and willing to learn and help others to do so. We would also love to have someone who is enthusiastic and positive to complement our current volunteer and staff teams.

1-2 day commitment during the week

Description

The Guadalupe River Park Conservancy provides community leadership for the development and active use of the Guadalupe River Park & Gardens through education, advocacy and stewardship. Past efforts by the Conservancy contributed to collaboration among government agencies and community interest groups seeking to solve problems related to the Guadalupe River flood control project. The Conservancy is continually involved in completing the master plans for both the park and gardens, creating educational programs, promoting awareness of the Park & Gardens, and developing membership and volunteer opportunities to increase public support and involvement.
