Do you want to make a difference in the life of a youth but can’t make the commitment to adopt right now? Are you thinking about becoming an adoptive family some day, but want to first learn as much as possible about what a family built through older youth adoption looks like? Maybe you have a lot of respect for people who adopt and wonder how you can help them in a very concrete way?
Take a look at becoming an Ampersand Families buddy family.
Buddy Families, * Build a personal relationship with one specific set of parents and youth. * Spend a couple evenings and one weekend a month with the youth, so that everyone can have a break from the intense work of family building. * Help with occasional transportation. * Provide a listening ear, and maybe a cup of coffee, to parents when times get tough. * Occasional activities together as families. * Buddy families help adoptive parents feel community support as they do the work of parenting a youth who has experienced trauma.

Ampersand Families recruits and supports permanent families for older youth, and champions practices in adoption and permanency that restore belonging, dignity, and hope.
Ampersand Families is the only adoption agency in Minnesota that focuses exclusively on finding permanent families for waiting youth ages 10 and older. The agency provides child specific recruitment services to youth, training/home studies and support to families, and consultation and training regarding permanency.
Ampersand Families provides adoption services through the Public Private Adoption Initiative (PPAI), funded by Minnesota Department of Human Services. Thanks to PPAI, virtually every family served by Ampersand Families receives training, home study and placement support at no cost to the family. Post finalization support is provided by Ampersand Families through the financial generosity of individual, corporate and foundation donors.
Ampersand Families is also the home of Minnesota Heart Gallery--a statewide effort to promote awareness of waiting youth and to promote a waiting child's sense of dignity and worth through the use of professional photography. Heart Gallery relies on the expertise of nearly 200 volunteer photographers. Visit the gallery at www.minnesotaheartgallery.org.
