Study Buddies is a free academic support program for children in 1st to 8th grade. It takes place in-person on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8pm at our agency in Glenview. The volunteer tutors are high school students up through retirees. They help the children with their homework, read together, play games and do worksheets. Though it's an academic program, it's equally about relationship building and mentorship. For this reason, we ask that volunteers commit to either Monday or Wednesday or both evenings if they chose throughout the semester. Volunteers are paired with the same children each week. Being patient, a good listening and a positive role model are important.
Tutor responsibilities include:
> Support assigned student(s) with homework and academic support
> Be a positive role model
> Commit to one evening a week (either Monday or Wednesday) for a full semester
> Be an ambassador for Youth Services and its mission
> Spanish is helpful but not required
