Volunteer

In search of general volunteer services. South West Florida Horse Rescue (SWFHR) is always in need of well-mannered, caring, and responsible people within our community. No experience is required. "Horse Volunteers" must be willing to "get dirty", considering our main services are outside all day every day. Some areas of interest are:

  • Horse Keep: Feeding, cleaning stalls & paddocks, filling & cleaning water troughs, and other tasks that need to be completed daily
  • Handlers & Groomers: Grooming, hoof care, and socialization.
  • Equine ER: In severe cases, those who are approved may tend to non-common medical needs for any equines.
  • Facility Maintenance: Barn maintenance, fence checks, fence building, and repairs, weed control, tree maintenance, hazard watch, general maintenance and repairs, and other typical activities);
  • Fundraising: Event help & organization, outreach, special projects, and independent event-ing.
  • Grant Research and Writing: Specialized volunteers only (experience is highly needed)
  • Administration: Data entry, website maintenance, call processing, exploratory and investigative follow-ups.

With COVID-19 as a concern not to be taken lightly, we've taken steps to reduce our staff and current volunteer's exposure to new people, at least at our facility.

  • Orientation routines will be limited to only 6 people per orientation.
  • Masks are currently not a requirement but distancing is.
  • Use of the same vehicle (riding together) is up to the active volunteer.
  • Masks are available should volunteers need or want.

Description

South West Florida Horse Rescue, Inc. (SWFHR) is a Horse (Equine) Rescue operating in SW Florida more specifically Charlotte, Lee, Collier counties. We give our all for our community's equines and then some. Our operating area has, since our founding back in 2010, always been stated as the (5) counties of SW Florida but over the years we have rescued and re-homed beyond our counties.

We operate by simple rules which are safety, comfort, and security. These managing points lead to the main topics, of what we do, reduce and prevent undue stress of equines and owners. We consider our humane, ethical, and fiduciary duty to the equines we currently care for, to not need saving ourselves, while providing the following programs:

Equine Rescue, Equine Adoption, Volunteer, Equine Education, and Equine Owner Assistance (as funding is available)
