The Riverside County Library’s Literacy Program is actively seeking volunteer reading and writing tutors throughout the Riverside County region to provide this critical service. As a tutor, you will receive initial and ongoing training covering all aspects of working with a student, such as selecting appropriate level materials and helping them develop confidence in their abilities. Most tutor/student pairs meet once or twice a week for a total of two hours a week at a library that is convenient for both of you. Right now, student/learner pairs are meeting virtually. We suggest meeting regularly for at least six months so you can see them achieve their self-identified goals and share their sense of accomplishment.
There is no educational requirement to be a volunteer tutor in the Library’s Literacy Program. If you have proficient reading and writing skills and want to share your love of reading with someone who wants to pursue their own personal learning goals, this is a great opportunity to work in your community! If your student has children, you may also work as a team to build family literacy skills. All training and materials for this additional volunteer tutoring activity is provided by the Riverside County Library System’s Literacy Program.
At the moment, tutors MUST feel confident using a computer since our sessions are meeting virtually.
