Volunteer with the Children's Science Center during the 2019-2020 school year!
** All volunteers must complete a Volunteer Profile on our VolunteerMatters database prior to serving with the Children's Science Center. http://childsci.org/get-involved/volunteer/
The Children's Science Center will host a Family Science Night for families at elementary schools across Northern Virginia this school year! Join us for a fun, science-filled night while inspiring a love of learning and STEM-literacy in our local children.
Terrific opportunity for teens to fulfill volunteer hour requirements! Also a great opportunity for corporate groups to assist in their community! Volunteers MUST be 16 years of age or older and provide their own transportation. No need to be an Einstein (although we're open to that)!
Volunteers will help engage and excite children in science and engineering learning and exploration through the use of educational, interactive, hands-on instruction. Volunteers will be expected to review a volunteer instruction packet and/or watch a video for additional preparation. Contact Volunteer@childsci.org for more information.
About The Children's Science Center
3949 Pender Drive, Suite 120B, Fairfax, VA 22030, US
Our mission is to inspire a love of learning science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) by providing unique opportunities to explore and create. Our vision is to create a world-class interactive science center that ignites the curiosity in all of us. Our core values - Community, Fun, Excellence, Innovation, and Leadership - serve as guiding principles as we fulfill our mission, engage with our stakeholders, and recruit new employees and volunteers.
The Children’s Science Center is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization and interactive museum where children, families and school groups can explore STEM concepts through fun, engaging hands-on exhibits, activities and programs. We serve over 70,000 visitors a year at the Children’s Science Center Lab at Fair Oaks Mall and through our community programs delivered to schools, libraries and STEM festivals across Northern Virginia.
The Lab experience focuses on children ages 2 and up via collaborative learning within a family or a school group. The facility is especially focused on preschool and elementary aged visitors, but also great fun for a playful, inquisitive, hands-on oriented tween, or teen.
We are also developing a full-scale Children’s Science Center which will be a world-class, STEM-focused, accessible, children’s museum with activities and exhibits centered around six main exploration zones [the universe, the earth, the city, transportation, information technology and the human body]. It will be constructed on donated land at the Kincora development in Dulles, Virginia facing Route 28 North at the Nokes Boulevard West exit, approximately 4 miles north of Dulles Airport. The museum site plan allows for up to 70,000 square foot museum facility which will be built in phases over time. The main building sized at over 30,000 square feet and is currently in the planning stage.
