Bereavement Group
"Thank you, SPOP, for giving me a place where I could learn to understand and accept my loss. I have made good friends and now feel ready to move on."

Service Program for Older People (SPOP) is recruiting facilitators for adult bereavement support groups. This can be a deeply meaningful experience for the right volunteer.

Our award-winning bereavement program offers non-sectarian group support for adults of all ages, with a focus on either spousal/partner or non-partner loss. Groups meet for ten consecutive weeks and are overseen by a clinical social worker. We meet on the Upper West Side of Manhattan in the afternoon or early evening.

We are currently offering groups by virtual connection (Zoom) and have offered special groups this year for adults who experienced a personal loss related to Covid-19.

Volunteers must complete an application, interview and training. We expect a one-year commitment.
