Ready Set Smile is

Ready Set Smile has an exciting opportunity for a volunteer Dentists to work a few days a month or a year at Minneapolis schools. RSS is a non-profit that provides preventive dental care and education "on site" at 23 Minneapolis schools and early childcare centers. Ready Set Smile is committed to provide dental care and education to children who do not have access to a dental home. All of our services are at no cost to families.

Primary Responsibility:

To provide services within the scope of D.D.S. license. To work as a team in school clinics. Interest in reducing the oral health disparity in Minnesota.

Scope of practice:

• ● Toothbrush prophylaxis

• ● (When calculus is present) supragingival scaling

• ● Sealant application

• ● Fluoride varnish application

• ● Oral hygiene instructions

• ● Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) application

• ● Interim Therapeutic Restoration (ITR) placement (new scope of practice for which

  training would be provided)

  Patient Management:

• ● Provides clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, scaling, sealant application and fluoride application consistent with accepted professional practices and standards and in compliance with applicable state law and Ready Set Smile clinical protocols.

• ● Obtains baseline oral health screening/assessment data utilizing our iPad system.

• ● Records patient-hygienist transactions as they occur in the patient’s dental record so

  that the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the

  condition of the patient and the care or treatment provided.

• ● Provides oral health education and appropriate individual counseling.

• ● Review patient health and dental history and update as necessary

  Accurately translate patients dental health to dental assistant or Community Health

  Workers

• ● Provide all preventive and a-traumatic services under the statute of law governing

  dental professional in the State of Minnesota

• ● Assist in the appropriate referrals for services beyond Ready Set Smile’s scope of

  practice.

  Responsible for personal compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and ReadySet Smile rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dental hygiene and the clinical provision of dental hygiene services as well as those relating to, but not limited to, personnel issues, workplace safety, public health and confidentiality.

• ● Serve as an ambassador as a team member of Ready Sets Smile’s oral health programming.

  Personnel/Educational Requirements

  Must be licensed to practice in Minnesota and meet other applicable state requirements. RSS is able to provide liability insurance for volunteer Dentists.
