Higher Achievement is a 4-year, year round academic enrichment program that serves middle school students in Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia.

A key component of Higher Achievement’s success is our mentoring program. Higher Achievement's mentors are role models with varied backgrounds. This year, Higher Achievement is on a quest to creating a men of color mentor cohort. An opportunity for our scholars to look up to someone who looks like them.

We are looking for mentors who are passionate and committed role models who wants to volunteer one night a week from 6:00pm - 8:15pm and teach a small group of 3-4 Scholars in either STEM or Humanities.

About Higher Achievement

Location:

Mission Statement

Higher Achievement closes the opportunity gap during the pivotal middle school years. By leveraging the power of communities, Higher Achievement's proven model provides a rigorous year-round learning environment, caring role models, and a culture of high expectations, resulting in college-bound scholars with the character, confidence, and skills to succeed.

Description

Higher Achievement’s rigorous after-school and summer academic program gives youth from at-risk communities their best opportunity to succeed in middle school -- and in life. Our research-based program challenges middle school students to meet their full potential in three key areas: academics, social skills, and leadership. When students get the skills and support they need to invest in their own success, they discover that they can be scholars. On average, 95% of Higher Achievement scholars who complete the program advance to top academic high schools and 93% advance to college. Higher Achievement currently operates achievement centers in Washington, DC, Alexandria, VA and Baltimore, and will launch two new centers in Richmond in Summer 2011.
