Are you passionate about improving individuals lives and helping a program move forward?
St. Vincent de Paul's West Oakland Direct Service Campus serves the underrepresented, homeless and low-income community in Oakland. Many of these residents don't have access to clean water, restrooms, shelter, showers etc... We strive to provide all the basic needs of everyday life to anyone in our community who needs it.
We also have a culinary program that is available for anyone who would like to participate. This program teaches students how to work in an industrial sized kitchen, as well as provides them with help writing resumes and applying for jobs. Our students come from all different walks of life, but is largely geared towards our guests, or those who are looking to make a positive change.
We've recently begun a Catering of Champions program. This program employs only students who have gone through the Kitchen of Champions Culinary program. In this way we are able to offer the student(s) their first job in the field. Which for many this can be quite challenging.
We are looking for a volunteer who can help get this program running and stable. This program will enable many members of our community to move forward and bring positive changes to their life.

Mission Statement
St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County is dedicated to serving the men, women and children of Alameda County.
Description
A non-profit, community-based organization, St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County (SVdP) offers emergency and social safety net services to its neighbors, relying on a vast network of volunteers to carry out our mission. We operate a free dining room, thrift stores, an e-waste recycling program, men and women's drop-in centers, workforce and culinary training programs and much more. St. Vincent de Paul serves everyone regardless of origin, creed, or affiliation. Our staff and volunteers are a diverse and talented group, representing a wide range of experiences and perspectives.
St. Vincent de Paul was founded in 1833 by Frederic Ozanam, a 20-year-old student of the Sorbonne University in Paris, France. Similar groups began to form in Paris, then spread throughout France, and eventually throughout the world.
Volunteers, known as Vincentians, are united in an international society of charity by their spirit of poverty, humility, and sharing. St. Vincent de Paul of Alameda County was founded in 1938, and has been serving the community of Oakland ever since.
