INVENTORY MANAGEMENT AT LOCAL MUSEUM - AGE 55+

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Lutheran Community Services

Inventory Volunteer - Part time Volunteer -Approximately 3-5 4-hour shifts per month, September through June

Description: Inventory the museum’s social science kits for elementary schools in the South Sound.

This currently maintains 19 traveling trunks used by schools throughout the Puget Sound region to supplement social studies education for third and fourth grade classrooms. Each kit reaches approximately 200 students per year, helping children learn about the Oregon Trail and local history. Our traveling trunks include replica artifacts and lesson plans providing students with hands-on learning.

Essential Functions: Review the museum’s traveling trunk contents when they return from each school to confirm that this matches the master list of items. Replace missing and broken items. Communicate with the Program Manager when items need to be reordered.

Review the lesson plan notebook to ensure that all pages are included and in the correct order. Use a copy machine to replace any missing pages from the lesson plan materials.

Verify that all traveling trunk contents are included and in good repair before the kit is sent to the next school.

Minimum Qualifications:

Demonstrated organizational skills are required. Must be detail-oriented and able to work independently.

Volunteers with experience in inventory control, filing, and/or administrative duties are strongly encouraged to apply.

Must be reliable, including excellent attendance, promptness and courteous behavior.

Availability during the school year, September through June. Approximately 3-5 four-hour shifts per month as trunks rotate between schools. Museum hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 1-4 p.m, but the traveling trunk inventory can be completed at other times when the museum is closed to the public. The trunk rotation schedule is available well in-advance.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE RSVP (RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM)

RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) is the nation's largest network for volunteers age 55 and over. The growing segment of our older population is vital to strengthening our communities through their interest in helping others. As an RSVP volunteer, you are strengthening the positive impact people 55 and older have in our communities. Our focus is to incorporate meaningful volunteer opportunities that provide purpose and a way to give back to the community.

RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers as it matches their personal interests with opportunities to serve in their communities.

Current RSVP volunteer positions include local food banks, congregate meal sites, non-profit thrift stores (shopping assistants, sorters, warehouse assistant, truck assistants, retail assistants, assemble furniture in a fully equipped build shop), administrative/clerical assistants, reading/enrichment/tutoring/ mentorship groups and success coaches, construction volunteers (no experience required),, throughout the Greater Tacoma, Puyallup, Gig Harbor, Graham and Lakewood area.

We are continually bringing on new and unique volunteer opportunities.

RSVP is sponsored by Lutheran Community Services Northwest, a private, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of the people it serves.

As a member of RSVP you are invited to our RSVP volunteer recognition events held throughout the year. Every volunteer receives a gift and a lunch!
