Event Description:
No School! While teachers are working hard to improve our school systems, you can show you care, too, by spending your morning at Walnut Creek Wetland Park, making a difference in your community. We are going to kill invasive plants! Join us October 4th and October 9th.
Volunteer Duties:
Cutting and digging to remove invasive plants.
Impact:
Our park could not function without the enthusiastic volunteers that spend time in our wetland removing invasive plants. Volunteers have played a crucial role in helping us tackle this problem.
Work Environment:
The work will be outside, and some of it may be strenuous. Participants should come dressed to get wet, dirty or messy. Participants will be using trash grabbers and small hand-tools such as loppers and hand-pruners. If you have them, please bring waterproof boots. We will also have loaner boots.
Volunteer Requirements:
This event is for those who are in high school. Ages 14 and older may assist unattended by an adult. Younger ages may participate with an adult. All volunteers must sign a liability waiver and those under 18 must have the waiver signed by a parent or guardian.
Special Instructions:
We will have cold water and snacks available. A change of clothes is suggested but not necessary.
Group Registration Information:
Registration as a volunteer is first come, first served. A group leader must email mary.owens@raleighnc.gov to register. All groups will be required to provide a list of names and emails for their volunteers.
Per department policy, this volunteer opportunity is not to be used towards court-appointed/ suggested community service hours.
