The Allen Heritage Guild is always looking for new members. We are a small non-profit organization but we have big goals. The Guild is the only organization in Allen that is preserving it's history. We maintain the Allen Depot which has displays for the Houston & Texas Central railroad, Sam Bass robbery, Rev Anderson of the Saint Mary Baptist Church, Allen's telephone switchboard, Interurban and much more. The City of Allen is considering the purchase of a Steam Locomotive for display by the Depot.
The Guild also maintains the Heritage Village on St. Mary Drive. The Village currently has 2 churches and 3 houses with a 4th house being restored. Allen's Parks and Recreation department is planning to add a pavilion, barn, gazebo and tenant house to complete the Village.
Guild members do an unlimited variety of tasks including collecting and archiving items, making displays, editing publications, demonstrating antiques, restoration, research, giving tours, making presentations, fundraising, updating social media, repairing artifacts, photographing events and displays, sewing costumes, storytelling, re-enacting, house keeping, office work, data entry, graphic artist, publicity, planning events, building parade floats, and communicating with city officials.
Please join the Allen Heritage Guild or volunteer some time. Thanks.

Mission Statement
Preserving and Promoting Allen's Heritage and Spirit.
Description
The Allen Heritage Guild began in 1996 with a vision to protect Allen's history and heritage. Allen was first settled with Peter's Colony Land Grant Holders. With the arrival of the Houston and Central Texas Railroad in 1874 Allen began to grow. There were no roads or rivers for Allen farmers to transport crops to markets without the railroad. Allen has a historic Stone Dam which was specifically built to create a water reservoir for Steam Locomotives. The Guild maintains the Allen Depot Museum and Allen Heritage Village and has hours of operation for both. The Guild plans Special Events such as Sam Bass Day at the Depot and Fall Fest at the Village.
The Guild always needs volunteers to do a variety of tasks from docents & greets at Village Open Houses or Depot Hours, to display or parade float designers, to handymen and restorers, to researchers, to costume sewers, to entertainers, to craft demonstrators, to event or fundraiser planners and to techies with computer skills to maintain social media.
